Rotational Development Program Trainee (Electrical Power Systems) | Pacific Gas and Electric Company

The Tone:
This is a 12-month rotational program at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, located in San Luis Obispo, CA, with potential for assignments in multiple locations within PG&E’s service territory. PG&E’s Engineering, Planning, and Strategy (EP&S) organization focuses on engineering the grid of the future through an integrated approach leveraging renewable energy sources and traditional utility infrastructure. The Electric Engineering department within EP&S designs all aspects of PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission grid. This program offers engineers the opportunity to gain meaningful experience improving PG&E’s large network of electric transmission and distribution facilities, contributing to the delivery of safe, reliable, and affordable energy.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Rotation: Participate in a 12-month program to gain meaningful engineering experience across up to two departments within Electric Engineering.
• Learning: Dedicate six months to each rotation, learning departmental operations and contributing to team success.
• Project Work: Support the design of PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission grid, including system planning, engineering, resiliency solutions, and asset strategy.
• Grid Improvement: Work within PG&E’s service territory on projects focused on improving electric transmission and distribution facilities.
• Departmental Contributions: Contribute to specific departments such as Distribution Asset Planning, Transmission Systems Planning, Distribution Planning – Distributed Generation, Distributions Operations Engineering, System Protection, or Grid Innovation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• Experience: Must be receiving or have received degree between May 2025 to July 2027. Requires reliable transportation for work purposes.
• Skills: Strong communications, initiative, and teamwork.
• Bonus: Completed coursework in Electrical Engineering with power emphasis (e.g., Power Systems, Analysis, Transmission Lines, System Protection/Substations). Experience with Python and SQL. Former PG&E internship experience. Work experience or internships in utilities, power industry, or other power related fields. EIT Certification.
