About the Role
Earthjustice’s Washington, DC Regional Office is seeking a fall 2026 science intern, specifically graduate students who share a passion for justice and a healthy environment. This role involves researching various scientific questions to assist Earthjustice’s advocacy work before federal agencies and courts, contributing to the organization’s mission to protect people’s health, preserve magnificent places and wildlife, advance clean energy, and combat climate change. The DC office serves as a center for litigation and advocacy on national environmental issues, including air and water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, and zero-emission transportation systems.

What You’ll Do
• Contribute comment letters to federal agencies
• Contribute factsheets for community partners
• Contribute blog posts
• Contribute internal memos summarizing research
• Engage with Congressional members/staffers

You’re a Good Fit If You
• Are enrolled in a graduate program with an expected graduation date no earlier than December 2026
• Have experience with and/or have taken courses on environmental health topics (e.g., epidemiology, toxicology, human health risk assessment)
• Have working knowledge of MS Office Suite and comfort navigating and learning new tools
• Possess outstanding research skills, including ability to conduct scientific literature reviews and basic quantitative data analyses
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex information to various audiences
• Demonstrate commitment to Earthjustice’s values of Justice, Excellence, Inclusion, and Partnership
• Must commit to working 10-15 hours/week for 10-12 weeks

Bonus Qualifications
• Have a background in environmental science, biology, chemistry, engineering, public health, or a related field

Role Highlights & Compensation
• Interns receive an hourly rate that is considered taxable income
• The current hourly rate for graduate students is $27.39, which will refresh on July 1, 2026, subject to Board approval
• The successful candidate may work fully remote from the U.S. or on a hybrid schedule from our Washington, DC office
