Sales and Management Intern | The Buckle, Inc.

The Tone:
This is a part-time in-store internship at The Buckle, Inc., located in Springfield, MO. The Buckle, Inc.’s mission is to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for its Guests. This role is fundamental for individuals aiming to develop a comprehensive understanding of Buckle’s retail business model and the essential skills required for management excellence. Interns are expected to contribute directly to the guest experience while mastering various sales, merchandising, and operational responsibilities.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Guest Engagement & Sales: Actively greet Guests with an engaging attitude, provide legendary service by recommending and locating merchandise, anticipate needs to create a full wardrobing experience, achieving personal sales-per-hour and total net sales goals, and maintaining strong Guest relationships to develop a client-based business.
• Merchandise Presentation: Present merchandise in a manner that maximizes sales and achieves optimum merchandise turn, stay current on product range, ensure the sales floor is consistently sized, appropriately display new freight, and provide feedback on merchandise handling concerns.
• Store Operations & Loss Prevention: Execute comprehensive cashiering duties including opening and closing cash registers, counting money, balancing cash drawers, processing various payment types, watching for security risks and thefts, and consistently maintaining a clean, organized, and shoppable store.
• Leadership Training & Development: Complete Teammate Orientation, Beginning Leadership, and Recruiting, Interviewing, and Hiring sections of the Buckle Management Manual, provide weekly reports and progress updates to Area and District Managers, and actively participate in monthly conference calls to develop recruiting, merchandising, and leadership skills.
• Product Category Ownership: Take full ownership and responsibility for managing a specific product category, such as denim, tops, or accessories, by setting sales goals, educating teammates on product knowledge, tracking results through Performance Tracker, and leading the team to build that category’s performance.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a relevant field of study.
• Experience: No prior experience or training is necessary.
• Skills: Exceptional Guest Service: Consistently provide legendary service by anticipating needs, creating wardrobing experiences, answering merchandise questions, and knowledgeably handling all payment, exchange, and return procedures. Proficient Retail Operations: Execute cashiering tasks (opening/closing registers, balancing drawers, POS use), manage merchandise display, freight, markdowns, and maintain a consistently clean, organized, and shoppable store. Sales Generation & Product Expertise: Achieve personal sales-per-hour and net sales goals, recommend products using comprehensive product knowledge, and lead efforts for specific department or company tools. Emergent Leadership & Communication: Develop leadership skills through completing management modules, motivating a team, providing feedback, communicating concerns, and actively participating in conference calls.
