Health & Safety Intern | FlatironDragados

The Tone:
This is an internship at FlatironDragados, located in North Carolina. FlatironDragados is a leader in heavy civil construction, specializing in significant infrastructure projects like highways. This role is crucial for supporting the company’s comprehensive safety program on a live highway project. As an intern, you will gain hands-on experience, applying your academic knowledge to real-world construction safety challenges and contributing directly to a safe work environment.

The TL;DR

• Team: Reports to the District Safety Manager or Project Safety Manager
• Mission: Facilitate the company’s safety program by assisting with documentation, investigations, and coordination to ensure a safe construction site.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Documentation Management: Track and maintain comprehensive records for all safety-related documents, including orientations, training logs, audit findings, and incident reports, ensuring accurate and accessible recordkeeping.
• Incident Investigation Support: Assist in the thorough reporting of incidents and accidents, contribute to detailed investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and ensure all required reports are submitted promptly and accurately.
• Personnel Liaison & Coordination: Serve as a key point of contact, liaising with safety personnel to facilitate incident investigations, manage medical reports, and coordinate various other essential safety-related communications.
• Safety Event Planning: Organize and execute safety events as directed by the District or Project Safety Manager, contributing to a proactive safety culture on site.
• Administrative Operations: Manage routine correspondence by preparing responses to inquiries and process crucial financial and operational documents, such as invoices, reports, memos, and letters, utilizing relevant word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, or a closely related major from an accredited university.
• Experience: A strong desire to apply theoretical academic knowledge and training to practical, real-world scenarios within a large-scale construction environment, with an eagerness to learn about construction activities, scheduling, risk assessments, and corrective measure implementation.
• Skills: Demonstrated abilities in organization, meticulous recordkeeping, fundamental analytical thinking for incident support, and proficient use of Microsoft Office applications for data management and communication. Additionally, exhibit a results-oriented approach, high initiative, strong judgment, and unwavering integrity, alongside an ability to influence others positively and collaborate effectively within a team.
