Intern – Safety Management | Wharton-Smith, Inc.

The Tone:
This is an internship at Wharton-Smith, Inc., offering an in-person opportunity to contribute across various Wharton-Smith job sites. The Intern – Safety Management will directly assist the on-site Safety Manager and project team in upholding rigorous safety standards, identifying potential hazards, and supporting initiatives that protect employees and ensure project success.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Conduct: Perform jobsite safety inspections and identify potential hazards to promote a safe work environment.
• Uphold: Support the implementation of project safety plans and ensure adherence to Wharton-Smith safety policies and industry standards.
• Oversee: Monitor jobsite activities diligently to confirm proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices among all workers.
• Record: Document incidents, near-misses, and general safety observations accurately to inform continuous improvement and risk mitigation efforts.
• Organize: Assist with the coordination of safety meetings, contribute to training initiatives, and maintain accurate safety records and compliance documentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing a degree or career in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Management, or a related field, with a foundational understanding of construction safety principles.
• Experience: Entry-level experience or strong familiarity with jobsite safety practices, including hazard recognition, PPE requirements, and basic understanding of incident reporting and investigation procedures.
• Skills: Possess basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards; demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for safety reporting and analysis; exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills; and display a high level of attention to detail with excellent organizational and record-keeping abilities.
• Bonus: OSHA 10-hour certification is highly preferred, and possession of an OSHA 30-hour certification is considered a significant advantage.
