Description: Risk Management Intern
This 10-week paid summer internship, based in Glen Allen, VA, reports directly to the Chief Risk Officer. The intern will be instrumental in contributing to the development of Richmond National’s risk management framework, policies, and procedures. Given the company’s growth, the intern will have a significant role in shaping these crucial aspects of the business from the ground up.
The internship is structured as a rotational program. It begins with the intern embedded within the risk management team. Subsequently, under the Chief Risk Officer’s guidance, the intern will rotate through various departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of risk management across different functional areas. These rotations may include:
• Finance: Analyzing credit risk, contributing to the annual fraud risk assessment, and analyzing controls aimed at preventing or correcting financial statement misstatements.
• Potentially Other Departments: Legal and regulatory, claims, actuarial, and information technology. Within each department, the intern will handle tasks directly related to the function’s risk management activities.
Following each rotation, the intern will return to the risk management team to document their experience. This involves reviewing and updating the company’s risk management framework design and associated documentation.
Key Skills and Qualities: The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, highly organized, and possesses excellent communication skills. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment is essential.
