Risk, Controls, and Assurance Intern – Summer 2027 | Elevance Health

The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at Elevance Health, located in Indianapolis, IN; Mason, OH; or Tampa, FL. Elevance Health is a Fortune 25 health company dedicated to improving lives and communities by making healthcare simpler. This role is crucial for supporting the Risk, Controls, and Assurance team in ensuring the stability and compliance of internal controls over financial reporting and audit/regulatory obligations. The work contributes to maintaining robust financial processes and regulatory adherence within a major healthcare organization.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Document Testing Results: Create and record the outcomes of control testing and reviews.
• Support Audit Planning: Provide research, develop work programs, and create engagement plans in collaboration with audit team members.
• Analyze Risk: Evaluate the risk associated with financial processes, operational processes, and their supporting IT systems.
• Map Business Processes: Document business processes that rely on financial data systems.
• Engage External Auditors: Have direct contact with external audit firms for purposes of audit planning and remediation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Accounting, Finance, Business Information Systems, Management Information Systems, or a related program (MSA, MBA, MSIS, etc.).
• Experience: Ability to work 40 hours per week for 7 months (May-December 2027) and work in-office at least once per week.
• Skills: Excellent Problem-solving, Analytical, Organizational, written and verbal communication, and time management skills.
• Bonus: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel, Word, and Access; ability to work in a team-based environment; excellent public speaking and presentation skills; an interest in health care and insurance.
