Rides Unit Supervisor Intern
The Rides Unit Supervisor Intern position offers a unique opportunity to develop valuable leadership skills within a dynamic theme park environment. This role involves leading and collaborating with a ride crew, contributing to department incentives, and participating in various events throughout the season. Interns will gain hands-on experience in ride operations, guest relations, and team management, preparing them for future leadership roles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Training & Compliance:
- Attend all mandatory Human Resources Discovery, Rides Department, and specific ride training sessions.
- Strictly adhere to Six Flags Standards of Appearance and Attendance policies.
- Successfully complete all ride certification tests with 100% proficiency.
- Obtain certification for Attendant and Operator positions on all rides within the assigned unit.
- Successfully complete and pass the Rides Leadership Training Program, including becoming a certified iROC Trainer.
- Complete the International Ride Operator Certification (iROC) course through General Rides Training.
- Become General certified in the Supplemental Restraint Harness program.
- Guest Experience & Safety:
- Provide courteous greetings, answer Guest questions, and resolve Guest comments whenever possible.
- Ensure the highest level of Guest safety and satisfaction.
- Enforce all rider restrictions, including monitoring and measuring height requirements.
- Assist with pairing single riders and implementing proper grouping techniques to maximize ride capacity.
- Monitor and enforce Park line jumping and smoking policies.
- Clean ride units and ride areas as needed, including responding to Guest illnesses.
- Assist Guests as they exit the ride.
- Ride Operations & Maintenance:
- Stand at the control panel, operate the ride by pressing appropriate buttons, visually monitor the panel for lights, and be prepared to stop the ride during critical situations.
- Operate the secondary control panel, visually monitor the ride, and be prepared to stop the ride during critical situations.
- Communicate proper hand signals during ride operation.
- Watch the ride and waiting Guests throughout the ride cycle.
- Physically check restraints and manually open them when necessary.
- Perform test rides to ensure continued safety before operation.
- Report immediately any unsafe acts to the Supervisor.
- Emergency Response:
- Respond to any emergency situation in the area and maintain control until a Section Supervisor arrives.
- Assist with downtime situations and evacuation procedures if a ride cannot be restarted.
- Administrative & Supervisory Duties:
- Maintain and update the Daily Operations Report and take hourly throughput readings.
- Facilitate the Fast Lane program at participating rides.
- Give announcements via a public address system when necessary.
- Perform daily ride area inspections and complete all associated paperwork.
- Assign daily position and break rotations for the ride crew.
- Counsel and correct Team Members as necessary.
- Serve as a liaison between Team Members and Supervisors.
- Hold crew and safety meetings.
- Complete Witness Statements as needed.
- Leadership Development & Support:
- Assist with Leadership Training Programs.
- Train and certify Team Members as needed.
- Shadow Rides Section Supervisor, Rides Duty Manager, and two additional departments to gain broader operational insight.
- Assist with department event planning and execution.
- May be asked to assist in the Ride Information Center.
Qualifications:
- Age Requirement: Minimum 18 years of age.
- Availability: Must be able to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with at least 50% of availability including closing shifts.
- Communication Skills: Must possess above-average communication skills, including the ability to read, speak, and understand the English language effectively.
- Stress Management: Must react well in stressful and emergency situations.
- Work Ethic: Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment; professional, self-motivated, ability to multi-task, and possess an enthusiastic attitude.
- Physical Demands:
- Able to stand/walk for up to 5 hours at a time and as many as 16 hours a day.
- Able to walk up to 5 miles per day over various surfaces.
- May be exposed to heights, spinning objects, or moving water.
- Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Teamwork: Must have strong teamwork skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
