What You’ll Actually Do
• Research: Actively research and gain a comprehensive understanding of the organization’s structure, operations, and relevant industry processes within local government.
• Observe: Shadow experienced professionals, attend assigned meetings, and observe daily operations to gain practical, hands-on insights into departmental functions.
• Communicate: Engage effectively and professionally with colleagues and supervisors, exchanging ideas and instructions clearly through both verbal and written communication.
• Analyze & Report: Collect, analyze, and interpret various data or resource materials to support the development and writing of papers and comprehensive reports.
• Problem-Solve & Adapt: Approach tasks with a proactive mindset, identifying potential challenges, proposing constructive solutions, and demonstrating adaptability to changing priorities.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in an accredited academic institution, pursuing a degree related to the internship area or demonstrating a clear interest in local government careers.
• Skills:
• Effective verbal and written communication skills for professional interactions.
• Proactive problem-solving abilities to identify challenges and propose solutions.
• Excellent customer service skills when engaging with colleagues and community members.
• Data collection and analytical skills to support research and reporting needs.

• Actively enrolled college student is preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age on or before the start of the internship.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
