Renewable Operation Center (ROC) Analytics Intern | Xcel Energy

The Tone:
This is an internship at Xcel Energy, working on-site. Xcel Energy is a leading electricity and natural gas company, providing a comprehensive portfolio of energy services across multiple states. This role is crucial for supporting the company’s rapidly expanding renewable generation fleet by focusing on real-time operations, data-driven decision-making, and performance optimization of utility-scale renewable assets.

The TL;DR

• Pay: $20.90–$22.10 hourly
• Team: ROC Operators and ROC Analytics team, reporting to ROC Sr. Ops Manager and Sr. Analyst
• Mission: Support the Renewable Operation Center’s daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis and reporting for Xcel’s renewable energy portfolio.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Python, Java, VBA, SQL, R, PowerBI, renewable plant SCADA Systems, network/communication systems, Databricks

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop daily operational reports that support both on-site teams and ROC personnel.
• Conduct quantitative and trend-based analysis to enable proactive work management and inform operational strategies.
• Design and enhance visual and interactive dashboards to identify performance trends, risks, and optimization opportunities across the fleet.
• Support the Senior ROC Analyst in the development and maintenance of databases for scalable analytics and collaboration between operations and engineering teams.
• Gather, validate, and organize operational data used for reporting, trend analysis, and post-event reviews.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Engineering, Finance, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field.
• Experience: Undergraduate student with junior- or senior-level academic standing entering Fall 2026.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, demonstrated technical skills through coursework and extracurricular activities, analytical and inquisitive mindset with a commitment to detail and continuous learning, ability to learn tools such as Microsoft Excel, Python, Java, VBA, SQL, R, PowerBI, and renewable plant SCADA Systems, ability to work independently and collaboratively.
