Operations Manager – Nashville – 2nd shift | Carvana

The Tone:
This is a supervisory, full-time role at Carvana, located in Nashville, TN, for the 2nd shift. Carvana operates vehicle Reconditioning Centers nationwide, where cars undergo a rigorous 150-point inspection, are perfected, and photographed before being listed online. This Operations Manager role, also referred to as a Reconditioning Manager, is critical to ensuring every vehicle meets Carvana’s high mechanical and cosmetic standards, reflecting the company’s promise to deliver first-rate vehicles and a no-hassle car buying experience. The manager will foster continuous improvement and high associate engagement within this vital reconditioning process.

The TL;DR
• Role: Full Time
• Type: 2nd shift
• Location: In-person, Nashville, TN
• Team: Oversees a team carrying out daily operations within an Inspection Center, directly managing at least five leads and up to 70 front line associates.
• Mission: Oversee all aspects of the vehicle reconditioning process, direct a large team, and maintain a culture of continuous improvement and high associate engagement to meet quality, production, and cost objectives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations within the Inspection Center, ensuring adequate production capacity levels for each line, assisting with production planning, and maintaining adherence to all operating standards, systems, policies, and procedures.
• Team Leadership & Development: Provide comprehensive mentoring, coaching, and accountability to direct reports, leads, and associates, developing supervisory staff through recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training, and executing progression path training and certification processes.
• Strategic Planning & Execution: Participate in the development and execution of strategic plans, goals, and objectives, ensuring they align with company vision and provide clear guidance to the reconditioning team for meeting performance metrics.
• Culture & Engagement: Create a work and team environment that fosters positive communication, team cohesion, and adherence to Carvana’s Values, while positively reinforcing and engaging the team regarding quality, production, and cost objectives.
• Continuous Improvement & Compliance: Lead problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts, and ensure strict compliance with all health and safety and loss prevention guidelines within the facility.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Manager-level professional responsible for overseeing daily operations within an Inspection Center, possessing core domain knowledge in automotive reconditioning or lean manufacturing environments.
• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of management experience, specifically in either the automotive sector or a lean manufacturing setting, coupled with proven experience leading, developing, recruiting, selecting, and training associates, and demonstrating the ability to achieve project deliverables and company metrics.
• Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing principles; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; strong analytical and decision-making ability; and proficient computer skills.
