Propulsion Engineering Intern | Millennium Space Systems

The Tone:
This is a 10-12 week internship at Millennium Space Systems, a part of Boeing Defense, Space and Security. The company builds small satellites at the forefront of national security space, focusing on critical missions like missile warning and Earth observation. This role is crucial as you will be an integral part of the propulsion team, directly contributing to advancing Millennium satellites by applying fundamental engineering principles to real-world space hardware and systems. What You’ll Actually Do
• Model: Support the propulsion team in generating hardware 3D models and engineering drawings for satellite components.
• Analyze: Conduct propulsion performance analysis, including hand calculations, tolerance analysis, and performance trade studies.
• Design: Directly contribute to advancing the propulsion design and execution of Millennium satellites, reducing risks during build and operation.
• Prototype: Take ownership of the 3D modeling and prototyping for assigned propulsion parts.
• Evaluate: Lead first-order analysis and calculations specifically for fluid system and thruster performance.
• Oversee: Supervise relevant testing or issue resolutions for current or upcoming satellite builds.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently majoring in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with a minimum sophomore level academic standing. Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements (“U.S. Person” status).
• Experience: Demonstrated experience with 3D CAD/Modeling, along with practical experience in prototyping.
• Skills: Strong understanding of statics and mechanics of materials, and familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Bonus: Preferred GPA of 3.0 or above, exceptional organizational and collaboration skills shown through leadership, strong technical experiences from projects or internships, and a genuine interest in aerospace engineering.
