The Tone:
This is an internship at Cabot Properties, located in an office environment in Dallas, TX. Cabot Properties is a leading international private equity real estate investment firm with 40 years of experience, specializing in logistics and industrial properties and managing a global portfolio of over 1,750 properties across 245 million square feet. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate and timely financial reporting of Cabot’s extensive real estate portfolio, providing the intern hands-on experience and direct support to the Property Accounting team.

The TL;DR

• Team: Property Accounting team, reporting to Property Accounting Manager.
• Mission: Support the Property Accounting team with the accurate and timely completion of financial reporting for Cabot’s real estate portfolio.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, Excel, MRI (exposure a plus)

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger & Cash: Assist property accounting and management teams with reviewing general ledger and subledger activity for assigned properties, and record daily cash receipts to tenant ledgers.
• Financial Reporting: Support the creation of monthly and quarterly property financial statements, prepare supporting schedules, and complete assigned balance sheet reconciliations.
• Expense & Variance Analysis: Prepare operating expense reconciliations and variance analyses, ensuring accuracy for review.
• Budgeting & Tenant Support: Assist with the preparation of annual property budgets, CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and supporting documentation.
• Operational Coordination: Help maintain accounting deadline calendars, follow up on open items, and assist with accounts payable review and audit support.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, with coursework in financial or intermediate accounting.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical thinking, clear communication, and willingness to ask questions.
• Bonus: Prior accounting or real estate experience; exposure to MRI or another accounting system.
