Intern – Project Management | PPL Corporation
The Tone:
This is an internship at PPL Corporation, located in Louisville, KY. PPL Corporation operates as a vital regulated utility, serving more than 1.3 million natural gas and electric customers across 77 Kentucky counties, five counties in Virginia, and the Louisville area through its family of companies, including Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company. This role is crucial within the Project Management Organization, which is dedicated to managing the electric transmission and distribution portfolio of projects in Kentucky. The intern will play a supportive role in enhancing grid resiliency and reliability, contributing to the consistent delivery of essential services and supporting a company consistently ranked for customer service.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Lifecycle Support: Assist Project Managers throughout the entire project lifecycle, which includes identification, initiation, engineering, construction planning, construction execution, and project closeout.
• Financial Management: Review and analyze financial data, ensuring the accuracy of project estimates and cash flow inputs within the PowerPlan system.
• Performance Monitoring: Learn to apply and evaluate key project and portfolio health metrics, such as Earned Value Management (EVM), Cost Performance Index (CPI), and Schedule Performance Index (SPI), to assess project progress and efficiency.
• Communication and Impact Assessment: Evaluate field communications to identify and understand potential impacts on project schedules and committed costs, providing crucial insights to Project Managers.
• Operational Observation and Documentation: Actively observe safety meetings and job briefings, contributing as appropriate, while assisting Project Managers with essential project documentation, including requirements and meeting minutes.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This intern position requires candidates to be actively enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university, pursuing either a bachelor’s or a master’s degree in a relevant field such as construction management or engineering.
• Experience: This is an entry-level internship opportunity designed for students. While no specific years of prior professional experience are mandated, candidates will gain exposure to managing project schedules, financials, and team communications in a utility setting.
• Skills: A strong academic record is essential, demonstrated by a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. Candidates should possess an aptitude for reviewing financial data, an eagerness to learn complex project management metrics like EVM, CPI, and SPI, and foundational communication skills for team collaboration and documentation.
