Project Engineer Intern | Granite Construction Incorporated

The Tone:
This is an internship at Granite Construction Incorporated, a major heavy civil contractor and construction materials producer with locations across the country. You will support a Project Team for a three to four month assignment, gaining hands-on experience in managing, executing, and documenting field construction activities. This role is crucial for assisting with the successful delivery and oversight of complex heavy civil projects.

The TL;DR

• Team: Part of a Project Team, assisting the Project Engineer and Management
• Mission: To support the Project Team in effectively managing, executing, and documenting field construction activities.
• Tech Stack: MS Office applications, HeavyJob, FIS (Field Information Systems)

What You’ll Actually Do
• Field Operations: Support field construction operations and gain practical insights by communicating directly with Foremen and Superintendents.
• Stakeholder Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with project owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, and the local community.
• Safety & Environment: Assist the Project Team in meeting and maintaining all Project Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements.
• Financial Tracking: Support the Project Engineer in approving time cards in HeavyJob and verifying quantities in FIS for accurate cost and revenue tracking.
• Reporting: Generate and distribute daily cost reports, including trucking, labor, and equipment, to the Project Manager, Foreman, and Superintendent.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career, requiring a High School diploma and a minimum of two years of education from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering or Construction Management.
• Experience: No specific years required.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with MS Office applications, and strong organizational skills.
• Bonus: Previous construction experience is a plus.
