Summary

As a Project Engineer at Kier & Wright, you will provide essential engineering support to project teams. This role is ideal for an individual gaining experience who is ready to take on tasks with increasing independence. You will be responsible for understanding, designing, and independently preparing technical engineering plans, as well as collaborating effectively with technicians to complete these plans.

The Project Engineer will assist in all technical aspects of projects, conduct engineering research and assessments, and coordinate with private consultants and public agencies. This position requires strong technical skills in civil design and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out tasks assigned by the Project Lead and engineering team, contributing to the successful completion of projects.
  • Develops working drawings for various civil design plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including grading, drainage, utility, stormwater management, and street frontage improvements, often from initial sketches.
  • Applies engineering judgment in performing duties, recognizing when to seek assistance, ask questions, or conduct independent research to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Manages personal time effectively across multiple tasks and projects to meet budgetary, quality, and schedule obligations.
  • Provides accurate design of on-site and off-site improvements for the planning and construction of commercial, industrial, and/or high-density residential projects, ensuring they are ready for construction.
  • Can provide accurate design of grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater treatment with minimal input from the engineer of record.
  • Performs various civil engineering calculations, prepares Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), and drafts other necessary engineering reports.
  • Effectively interacts and collaborates with peers, clients, and sub-consultants, fostering positive working relationships.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent level of experience. (2025-2026 Graduates are welcome to apply).
  • Experience: 0-5 years of experience in land development.
  • Certification: Engineering in Training (EIT) certification or scheduled to sit for the exam is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • General knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and Internet applications.
    • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and Bluebeam is preferred.
    • Additional software experience is a plus (e.g., Agtek, Hydrology/Hydraulic Software).
