The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at Waggoner Engineering, Inc., the company seeking a Project Accountant, located in Jackson, MS. • Mission: Manages the financial aspects of client project assignments, including recognition of costs, assistance in billing, and forecasting, to ensure projects stay within budget and are billed accurately.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for Project Managers regarding contract documents, change orders, and other contract modifications, ensuring accurate financial reflection of all project-related approvals and additional services for billing purposes.
• Cost Analysis & Reporting: Prepare and present accurate monthly construction Job Cost Analysis reports, playing a key role in monthly and quarterly project review meetings to discuss financial performance and projections.
• Comprehensive Invoicing: Prepare final invoice packages, including both draft and final invoices, for all billable projects, overseeing the process of sending these to customers and diligently following up to secure client approval and prompt payment.
• Billing Optimization & Forecasting: Proactively assess and pursue opportunities for maximizing client billing, collaborating closely with Project Managers to achieve optimal monthly billing amounts, and investigating billing issues, overages, and forecasting future costs to maintain project budget adherence.
• Project Lifecycle Administration: Maintain meticulous billing folders for all projects, ensuring all appropriate documentation such as pay applications, waivers, certified payroll reports, and vendor invoices are organized; accurately set up new projects, manage the transfer of employee billable hours and expenses, and thoroughly close out jobs by reviewing and investigating open commitments.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in business, financial, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Experience: Three to five or more years of experience managing an accounting function within a medium- or large-size company.
• Skills: Strong financial management acumen, understanding of project management concepts, advanced planning and thinking capabilities, and intermediate Excel proficiency.
• Bonus: Experience utilizing Deltek Vantage Point accounting software.
