Mission Support Specialist | U.S. Customs and Border Protection

The Tone:
This is a permanent full-time role at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Boston Field Office, Area Port of St. Albans, VT, located in St Albans City, VT. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the sole organization responsible for securing the nation’s borders, dedicated to accomplishing its mission and maintaining trust through strict adherence to government ethics standards. This position is vital for providing guidance and technical advice across various mission support functions for a Field Office or Port of Entry, directly contributing to CBP’s operational effectiveness.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analysis: Analyze complex administrative issues and recommend solutions to improve operational effectiveness.
• Planning: Plan and execute projects and studies to enhance mission support services and achieve organizational goals.
• Interpretation: Interpret laws, regulations, and policies to resolve challenges and ensure program compliance.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate activities and implement process improvements.
• Reporting: Prepare reports, guidance, and recommendations to support management decision-making and continuous improvement.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry to Mid-Level Professional. Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education or a bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) for the GS-07 level. For the GS-09 level, two or more years of full-time graduate education, a Master’s, LL.B., or J.D. degree is required, demonstrating the skills necessary to do the work.
• Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, such as collecting and reviewing administrative information, assisting with process improvements, evaluating policy impacts, resolving moderately complex administrative issues, or coordinating program activities.
• Skills: Administrative analysis, project planning and execution, regulatory and policy interpretation, stakeholder coordination, and report preparation.
