About Company:

After School Matters is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that annually offers after-school and summer programs to nearly 19,000 Chicago high school teens to explore and develop their talents while gaining critical skills that will set them up for success in college and beyond.

ASM offers paid apprenticeships led by professionals in the fields of arts, communications and leadership, sports, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

ASM programs take place at community locations throughout the city, including three ASM buildings: downtown at Gallery 37 Center for the Arts, the Michael and Karyn Lutz Center in Belmont Cragin, and the Pullman community at Gately Park. After School Matters’ annual operating budget is approximately $35M and employs approximately 500 staff across the organization.

Job Description:

Summary of Position:

The Program Administration Intern helps school staff foster a safe and welcoming program space at their school, supports recruitment efforts on campus, and provides logistical support for teen attendance, documents, and payroll. Freshmen Connection Liaisons also visit their school’s programs regularly and support instructors with any lesson demonstrations, small group work, or one-on-one support for teens.

This is a part-time position scheduled for approximately 16-20 hours per week for 7 weeks.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist the High School Connection Coordinator with in-school recruitment efforts; provide teen application assistance and enroll and drop teens in Cityspan/and/or CPS ASPEN, if possible and as needed.
• Ensure teens are eligible for stipends by gathering weekly attendance forms and teen documents and entering attendance in Cityspan and/or CPS ASPEN each week
• Ensure pre/post field trip procedures are completed for the school’s programs, including submitting Program Enhancement requests and check requests.
• Serve as one of the contacts for parents for programmatic and stipend inquiries
• Read and respond to ASM communications within 2 business days to support programs with the most up-to-date guidance
• Assist High School Connection staff in the classroom, as needed
• Make reminder messages to teens and parents related to attendance and programming.
• Other duties as assigned by the High School Connection coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Strong relationships with students at the school to facilitate recruitment
• Strong customer service skills to field student and teen questions
• Attention to detail and organizational skills to enter teen attendance reliably and promptly and track teen documents
• Ability to troubleshoot in emergencies while supporting teens

Required Qualifications

• High school degree or equivalency required
• Cook County residency required

Schedule

• Varies according to school programming schedule, Mondays – Fridays 8am – 2:30pm
• Ability to travel to ASM sites as needed

Compensation: $18 / per hour
