About Starlink
Starlink is one of SpaceX’s most ambitious projects to date, aiming to provide reliable internet access to the entire world. They are looking for a Production Development Engineer to contribute to the design and development of their user terminal manufacturing facility.
Description
This role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including:
• Facility Design: Designing the physical and digital layout of the user terminal production factory, considering building requirements, resources, and part flow to meet production targets of millions of units per year.
• Capacity and Flow Analysis: Conducting capacity studies, analyzing product flow to ensure on-time delivery, and owning floor layouts.
• Construction Coordination: Scheduling and coordinating construction activities with internal SpaceX teams and external contractors.
• Project Management: Developing and maintaining project schedules and budgets for capital projects, monitoring progress, and addressing deviations in real-time.
• Process Development: Defining new business processes and systems for high-volume production, including:
• Manufacturing execution
• Inventory management
• Nonconformance resolution
• Configuration management
• Material traceability
• Process control
• Maintenance
• Subject Matter Expertise: Acting as a subject matter expert in multiple Starlink production processes and systems, enabling complex data gathering, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
• Data Acquisition and Tracking: Implementing data acquisition and tracking for production and quality metrics, as well as environmental, testing, and safety controls.
• Optimization and Trend Analysis: Assisting production/engineering leadership in identifying trends and opportunities to optimize product output, enhance quality, and reduce manufacturing costs.
• Collaboration: Working collaboratively across various disciplines, including Engineering, Production, Test, Inventory, Quality, Supply Chain, and Customer Experience to ensure efficiency and consistency.
Currently pursuings
Basic Currently pursuings:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field.
• 1+ years of experience in manufacturing or industrial project management (collegiate extracurricular engineering projects like lab projects, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, Design Build Fly team, competitions, or internships qualify).
Preferred Skills and Experience:
• High-volume production experience (consumer goods, automotive, etc.).
• Project management experience, particularly in creating or overhauling cross-functional business processes in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
• Experience working with contractors on infrastructure projects across multiple disciplines.
• Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure.
• Experience with AutoCAD or Revit models.
• Knowledge of database structures and SQL.
• Understanding of lean engineering and Six Sigma concepts and their application.
• Experience with production automation and tooling.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience analyzing large datasets and communicating conclusions.
• Experience supporting production of complex electro-mechanical systems in high-volume work centers and/or during production ramp-up.
• Ability to identify customer needs, gather requirements, and execute independently.
• Creative approach to problem solving and exceptional analytical skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements.
Additional Requirements:
• Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends when needed to meet major milestones.
• Must be willing to travel up to 10%.
• This position is based in Bastrop, TX, and requires being onsite – remote work is not considered.
Compensation and Benefits
• Pay Range:
• Production Development Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 – $115,000.00/per year
• Production Development Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 – $130,000.00/per year
