Internship, Product Manager, Residential Energy Engineering (Fall 2026) | Tesla
The Tone:
This is an internship at Tesla, located in Palo Alto, CA. Tesla’s mission is to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy, with residential energy products forming a critical part of this goal. The company builds products like Powerwall, Solar, PV Inverter, Powershare, and Wall Connector, enabling customers to generate, store, and consume sustainable energy. This role is vital for guiding business and engineering decisions, ensuring the successful development and continuous improvement of these key energy products.

• Mission: Solve the climate problem by guiding business and engineering decisions for residential energy hardware products and software features.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Define requirements: Work with engineering to establish product requirements for new hardware and software features, identify functionality gaps, prioritize valuable use cases, and recommend product/experience trade-off decisions.
• Drive product decisions: Lead market intelligence efforts, analyze customer feedback, and conduct techno-economic analysis to inform and guide product choices.
• Design user experience: Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external customers to define the ideal user experience across various product lines for new features.
• Plan market launch: Outline the comprehensive go-to-market strategy required for the successful launch of hardware products or software features.
• Communicate risks and decisions: Provide visibility to leadership on critical timeline risks, product tradeoffs, emerging issues, and key decisions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or a related field, with a thorough understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering.
• Experience: Strong knowledge of global energy storage markets, direct experience working with engineering, sales, and business development teams. Direct experience with solar, energy storage, home charging, electrical concepts, and home construction.
• Skills: Comfort working with large datasets; ability to present complex problems and solutions simply and clearly to an executive audience to drive decision making; strong attention to detail and ability to manage simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment; ability to operate independently, bringing solutions and prioritization to complex problems.
