Private Equity Associate – Energy | Alexander Chapman

The Tone:
This is a full-time Associate 1 role at Alexander Chapman, a Leading Investment Firm, located in San Francisco. The firm is actively seeking to expand its team focused on private equity investments within the energy and real asset sectors. This position is critical for supporting the firm’s investment activities, from initial evaluation and detailed financial modeling to transaction execution and ongoing portfolio management. You will contribute directly to identifying and nurturing opportunities within the evolving energy landscape and essential infrastructure.

The TL;DR

• Mission: Support the evaluation, execution, and monitoring of private equity investments within the energy transition, power infrastructure, and real asset sectors.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Evaluate Opportunities: Assess new investment opportunities across energy transition, power infrastructure, distributed energy, environmental services, and other essential real asset sectors by reviewing Confidential Information Memoranda (CIMs), conducting market research, and analyzing industry trends.
• Build Financial Models: Construct and maintain detailed financial models, including operating forecasts, valuation analyses, Leveraged Buyout (LBO) models, and scenario analyses to assess investment returns, downside protection, and capital structure considerations.
• Execute Transactions: Support transaction execution from start to finish, coordinating due diligence workstreams and interacting with lenders, consultants, legal advisors, and management teams, while assisting with investment committee materials.
• Monitor Performance: Track and analyze portfolio company performance by reviewing monthly operating results, monitoring key infrastructure and energy metrics, identifying value-creation initiatives, and assisting with strategic add-on acquisition opportunities.
• Prepare Communications: Develop investment memoranda, presentations, and market analyses for senior leadership and investment committee discussions, with a focus on energy transition themes, infrastructure assets, and long-term cash flow characteristics.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Career level: Early Career, with a focus on investment activities in energy transition, power infrastructure, distributed energy, environmental services, and other essential real asset sectors.
• Experience: Proven ability to support transaction execution, monitor portfolio company performance, and build detailed financial models from scratch.
• Skills: Financial modeling (operating forecasts, valuation analyses, LBO models, scenario analyses), market research, due diligence coordination, preparing investment memoranda and presentations, and analytical skills for operating results and key infrastructure/energy metrics.
