Process Accountant – Grain | POET
The Tone:
This is an on-site, full-time Process Accountant role at POET, located in Wichita, KS. POET is a global leader in the energy and agricultural space, recognized as the largest producer and marketer of bioethanol and a leader in sustainable products. The company’s mission is to be good stewards of the Earth by converting renewable resources to energy and other valuable goods as effectively as possible. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate payments to grain customers, supporting the company’s multi-commodity marketing and transportation efforts, and providing the foundational financial data for statements and stakeholder reporting, directly contributing to POET’s sustainable path forward.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Collaborate: Work with teams across the POET system to enhance the efficiency of information flow.
• Process: Process grain settlements and issue accurate, timely payments to grain customers.
• Reconcile: Reconcile general ledger and bank accounts to ensure financial accuracy and completeness.
• Comply: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to transaction processing.
• Improve: Maintain and update role-specific documentation while actively identifying opportunities for process improvement.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field, or a high school diploma with at least one year of accounting experience.
• Experience: At least one year of experience in accounting or equivalent educational background. Demonstrated experience utilizing Microsoft Office, including MS Excel and Outlook, and working with financial statements.
• Skills: Ability to problem-solve with an analytical mindset. Excellent organizational capabilities and time management skills, along with the capacity to embrace change. Effective written and oral communication skills for collaborating across teams and with customers. Acute attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in all financial processes while also understanding the broader financial implications. A strong desire to learn and comprehend the underlying reasons (“the why”) behind responsibilities to contribute to continuous improvement.
