Pharmacy Intern | Kroger

The Tone:

This role is crucial for assisting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals while upholding established quality assurance standards. What You’ll Actually Do
• Customer Engagement: Cultivate a welcoming and respectful atmosphere for all customers by answering inquiries about products across the store and specifically within the pharmacy, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated. This includes providing direct support to minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults, and facilitating an environment that encourages customers to return.
• Pharmaceutical Consultation: Provide comprehensive drug counseling to customers and offer informed recommendations for over-the-counter medications, leveraging a strong and continuously updated knowledge of pharmaceutical products to discuss them competently with both customers and prescribers.
• Prescription Management: Execute precise and accurate input of patient and prescription details into the pharmacy computer system, accept and interpret oral and written prescriptions for filling or refilling, and dispense the correct medication efficiently. This also involves contacting prescribers’ offices for authorization, processing third-party insurance information, contacting insurance companies on behalf of customers when necessary, facilitating charge purchases, and accurately bagging and delivering filled prescriptions to customers.
• Operational Support & Stock Management: Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the pharmacy department. Responsibilities include accurately comparing and checking incoming medication orders, stocking them properly, and returning unused medication stock bottles to inventory, thereby ensuring an efficient and well-managed stock system within the pharmacy.
• Safety, Compliance & Communication: Actively contribute to a safe environment by notifying management of customer or employee accidents, reporting any prescription incidents to the pharmacist on duty, and escalating all safety risks, issues, or illegal activities such as robbery, theft, or fraud. This role requires working cooperatively in a high-paced environment, managing conflicts non-confrontationally, and acting with honesty and integrity regarding all customer and business information, while following directions and seeking assistance when necessary.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively enrolled in a US school of pharmacy.
• Experience: Hold a current state-issued Pharmacy Intern license.
• Skills: Knowledge of pharmaceutical products, accurate data entry for patient and prescription information, ability to interpret oral and written prescriptions, and provide immunizations under the supervision of a pharmacist.
