Job Description:
This is a Pharmacy Intern position that assists in various aspects of drug distribution under the supervision of a pharmacist. The intern functions according to established procedures and guidelines, performing duties that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist.
Key Responsibilities:
• Reading physician’s orders, preparing medications (including unique dosage forms for pediatric and geriatric patients), delivering medications, and ordering/delivering drug supplies to patient care units.
• Interpreting cart fill lists and replenishing patient medications in carts.
• Preparing and delivering controlled substances, maintaining accurate records.
• Taking inventory, analyzing medication supplies, and replacing outdated medications.
• Assisting in the preparation of sterile parenteral products (IV admixtures, chemotherapy, nutrition, etc.) using aseptic technique, and accurately entering related information into computer systems.
• Preparing and labeling prepackaged medications.
• Maintaining inventory and supplies in assigned pharmacy service areas.
• Answering telephone calls.
• Ensuring cleanliness and orderliness of pharmacy service areas.
• Participating in planning and implementing change, and improving productivity.
• Assisting in the education of pharmacy students, residents, pharmacists, technicians, and other interns.
• Preparing, processing, and reprocessing patient prescriptions and adjudications.
• Following up with third parties on rejected claims.
• Assisting with medication management therapy and pharmaceutical adherence programs.
• Coordinating with unit floors in discharge patients’ prescription and costs.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Must possess a current license or trainee license as required by the state board of pharmacy where services will be provided (MD, OH, WV, or PA – specific license details provided in the original job description).
• Must be enrolled in or accepted to an accredited School of Pharmacy OR be a graduate of an approved college of pharmacy, or a foreign pharmacy graduate with Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee certification, or a qualified graduate awaiting licensure examination, or participating in a residency/fellowship program.

• Pushing/pulling carts up to 100 pounds, lifting boxes of 25+ pounds.
