As an Outreach and Research Intern, you will play a key role in supporting students from diverse backgrounds as they explore library resources, develop essential research skills, and engage with campus-wide programming, particularly with the exciting reopening of the newly renovated Lilly Library. Your creativity and energy will be instrumental in shaping outreach initiatives, student engagement, and research support, helping to build programs and design services that make students feel seen, supported, and inspired.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: Durham, NC
• Pay: $18–$22.84 hourly
• Team: East Campus Libraries team, contributing to the Student Outreach Team
• Mission: Collaborate with Lilly Library staff to promote services, spaces, and collections through programming, tours, and exhibits, while providing research and circulation support to undergraduates and enhancing collection development.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Promote Services: Collaborate with Lilly Library staff to actively promote services, spaces, and collections through engaging programming, guided tours, and curated exhibits.
• Facilitate Engagement: Assist in planning and facilitating First-Year Library Advisory Board meetings and contribute to the Student Outreach Team by brainstorming and implementing programs that engage undergraduates.
• Create Content: Support library communications by creating compelling social media and blog content in partnership with the Communications and Social Media Coordinator.
• Provide Assistance: Serve as a Residence Hall Librarian, providing research assistance and circulation support at the Lilly service desk, and assisting users remotely through Ask a Librarian via chat and email.
• Develop Collections: Support collection development activities, including catalog searching, resource selection, and performing analysis projects to enhance library holdings.

• Background: Early career role focused on student engagement, library resources, and research support within an academic environment.
• Experience: Experience in promoting services, creating social media or blog content, planning student engagement programs, and providing research or circulation assistance.
• Skills: Research assistance, circulation support, social media content creation, program planning, effective communication.
