The Tone:
This is a full-time role at U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), located in Washington, D.C. CBP is a federal law enforcement agency within the Department of Homeland Security, dedicated to securing America’s borders, facilitating trade and travel, and enforcing various U.S. regulations. • Mission: This role solves operational problems and projects for CBP and inter-agency partners by applying research/statistical mathematical methodologies and developing new data and analytics techniques.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analytical Expertise: Serve as an expert and senior analyst, applying advanced analytical tools and research/statistical mathematical methodologies to solve operational problems and projects.
• Project Management: Consult on and manage diverse data, analytics, modeling, and simulation projects for various program offices within CBP organizational elements.
• Process Improvement: Identify and advocate for areas where data and analytics processes and tools can be effectively implemented to enhance operations.
• Strategic Analysis: Conduct projects of national importance, such as workforce model creation, policy outcome modeling, and data visualization dashboards, using comprehensive data and analytics.
• Methodology Development: Develop new data and analytics techniques and technologies, creating innovative models for programs and systems involving critical and emerging technologies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is a GS-14 senior-level position requiring a degree in Operations Research, OR at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses with substantial college-level math or statistics competence, including at least 3 semester hours in calculus.
• Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, involving duties such as conducting operations research projects with advanced concepts (modeling, simulation, gap analysis, forecasting, trend identification, performance analysis suggestions); developing and implementing analytical tools, models, dashboards, or methodologies for strategic planning, budgeting, and operational decision support for large, complex programs; preparing and delivering technical reports, briefings, and decision papers that translate complex findings into actionable options for senior leaders; and serving as a technical advisor for complex analytical studies from design to recommendations.
