Operations Intern | The International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The Tone:
This is a Summer internship at The International Rescue Committee (IRC), located in Silver Spring, MD. The IRC responds to humanitarian crises globally, helping people to restore health, safety, education, and economic wellbeing after conflict or disaster. This role is vital for supporting the Operations Team by ensuring a compliant and functional environment for staff, clients, and partners through essential administrative and logistical assistance.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Summer, minimum 24 hours per week, three full-time days
• Location: Silver Spring, MD
• Pay: $15 daily (per diem reimbursement)
• Team: Operations Team in Silver Spring, Maryland
• Mission: Ensures a well-functioning, compliant operational environment for staff, clients, and partners.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office suite

What You’ll Actually Do
• Inventory Management: Manage and maintain digital and physical files for office inventory.
• Storage Support: Coordinate on and off-site storage needs for office inventory.
• Supply Chain Assistance: Support office inventory needs, including tracking contributions in-kind and procured items.
• Infrastructure Maintenance: Support the smooth functioning of office infrastructure, including providing front desk assistance.
• Event Coordination: Assist with the planning and coordination of office events and meetings.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current college or university student, or within 12 months of graduation. Demonstrates interest in logistics, procurement, or IT.
• Experience: Proven ability to solve problems, manage multiple priorities, and deliver on time with strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Skills: Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite; clear and concise verbal and written communication.
• Bonus: Passion to work with limited-English speaking refugees; proficiency in a second language.
