Operations Intern (Co-Op) | Precision Castparts

The Tone:
This is an operations internship at Precision Castparts, located in South Gate, CA. The company is involved in heavy manufacturing, focusing on areas like machining and forging. As an Operations Intern, you will play a crucial role in implementing daily procedures to meet key objectives across production, safety, quality, and cost. This position provides hands-on experience, aimed at developing future operations leaders within the manufacturing department.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Type: Full-time (40 hr/week) or Part-time (20 hr/week) for 480 hours total
• Location: In-person, South Gate, CA

• Mission: Implement daily operating procedures to achieve key performance objectives across production, safety, quality, and cost.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office, MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook

What You’ll Actually Do
• Ensure adherence to functional safety guidelines, proper use of PPE, and maintain a clean and safe work environment daily.
• Monitor production metrics such as scrap, yield, and part efficiencies on existing programs to achieve budget targets.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet daily throughput targets and ensure customer satisfaction by reviewing relevant metrics.
• Support continuous improvement projects and engineering trials, while actively contributing to safety actions and cost reduction initiatives.
• Assist with managerial supervisory tasks including timekeeping, documentation control, training, scheduling, and processing work orders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level position for candidates currently pursuing a BS Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, or Manufacturing preferred) or Business Management, having completed at least their freshman year. Junior and Senior year candidates are preferred.
• Experience: No specific years required for core duties.
• Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, mathematical, and organizational skills; effective written and oral communication; proficiency in Microsoft Office programs; basic understanding of total quality management systems (e.g., root cause analysis, Value Stream Mapping); ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and specifications.
• Bonus: 1-2+ years of Leadership or Project Management experience; 1-2+ years of Customer Service experience; experience in machining (Manual, Forging, etc.); experience in a manufacturing environment.
