Operations Engineer (Space Planning) | SpaceX

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at SpaceX, located in Hawthorne, CA. SpaceX was founded on the belief that human exploration of the stars makes for a more exciting future, and today the company actively develops technologies to achieve this, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars. This Operations Engineer (Space Planning) role is crucial for supporting overall business operations through strategic planning, optimization of processes, and efficient alignment of resources to tasks, ensuring the success of all programs on the Hawthorne campus.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Strategic Operations: Conduct strategic operations engineering by optimizing resources, schedules, and risk under uncertainty.
• Space Planning: Maintain accurate information and coordinate space planning decisions across campuses using BIM or mapping software.
• Project Execution: Manage multiple concurrent projects, executing to tight timelines and effectively communicating with stakeholders.
• Campus Ownership: Own and operate the plan of record for changes and trades across campus, documenting rationale, owners, and timelines.
• Process Optimization: Create and operationalize standard templates to facilitate space requests, improving consistency and quality of rationale.
• Problem Solving: Identify operational challenges, determine root causes, and implement creative and effective solutions within the organization.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture.
• Experience: 1+ years of operations or process improvement experience (internships qualify).
• Skills: Proficiency with Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python/R, and CAD software.
• Bonus:
• Experience in a manufacturing, supply chain, or production environment.
• Proficiency in statistics, data analysis, data visualization, and cost-benefit analysis.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS, Archibus, JIRA, and inventory, production, or capacity planning systems (MRP/ERP).
• Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other related production principles.
• Education or experience in management science, operations engineering, operations research, or industrial engineering.
• Experience contributing to multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
