Job Title: Nurse Extern I (NE I)

Summary Description:

The Nurse Extern I (NE I) is a member of the patient care services team, responsible for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities. The NE I works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, who delegates tasks based on patient needs and the NE I’s skills and abilities. The NE I is required to report any deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse. The specific patient care tasks assigned may vary based on the unit or service line, depending on the patient population. Students hired as Nurse Extern I will perform job duties equivalent to a patient care tech or similar role.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care.
• Work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
• Perform delegated tasks based on patient needs and NE I skills and abilities.
• Report any deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.

Qualifications:

Minimum: Completion of the Fundamentals of Nursing course through an accredited school of nursing.
• Must successfully pass all courses to remain in the nursing program.
