Newcomer Youth Summer Academy 2026 Photography Intern | The International Rescue Committee (IRC)

The Tone:
This is a part-time photography internship at The International Rescue Committee (IRC), located in Manhattan. Founded at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping millions of people in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities survive, reclaim control of their future, and strengthen their communities. This role is essential for documenting the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, capturing the experiences of newly arrived refugee youth, creating high-quality visual content for IRC’s internal and external communications, and producing a cherished yearbook for students and their families.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Capture high-quality photographs of Newcomer Youth Summer Academy classes, events, and individual student and staff portraits.
• Maintain consistent communication with IRC administrators, the Yearbook Coordinator, and the Graphic Designer.
• Organize and provide images in easy-to-download files, categorized by date and event.
• Edit photo rolls and individual photos to ensure professional quality for internal and external use.
• Commit to photographing at least 50% of top priority events, including Staff Training, First Day of School, candid shots, mid-day community events, Friday field trips, yearbook portraits, and Graduation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution or have graduated from one within the last two years.
• Experience: At least two years of photographing experience.
• Skills: Strong organizational abilities, effective communication and collaboration skills, flexibility, problem-solving capability, and cultural competence.
• Bonus: Prior experience working with diverse populations and youth is desirable.
