The Tone:
This is a full-time, in-person role at Smurfit Westrock, located at the Demopolis Solid Bleached Sulfate (SBS) Paperboard mill in Demopolis, AL. • Mission: To perform essential duties that ensure safe working conditions, maximize production, adhere to quality standards, and preserve equipment capacity and investment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Team Collaboration: Work effectively and collaboratively as a member of an assigned machine, finishing, recovery, or pulp crew, contributing directly to the production of high-quality SBS paperboard.
• Operational Compliance: Consistently perform all duties essential to the overall function of your assigned crew, ensuring strict compliance with established operational methods, procedures, techniques, and critical safety rules and regulations.
• Equipment Understanding: Develop a foundational understanding of equipment operation and mechanics to effectively assist in problem-solving efforts and contribute to the optimization of mill processes.
• Training & Development: Actively participate in comprehensive training programs across various jobs within the mill, with advancement opportunities available based on demonstrated ability and seniority.
• Safety Engagement: Proactively engage in safety improvements and consistently participate in safety meetings to foster and maintain a safe working environment for all team members.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency, providing the essential educational foundation for this role.
• Experience: Required to have a solid history of employment, demonstrating reliability and commitment; two years of manufacturing experience is strongly preferred for familiarity with industrial environments and processes.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail are necessary for identifying and addressing operational issues; the ability to perform basic calculations accurately is essential; strong written and verbal communication skills are critical for effective team collaboration and clear reporting.
• Bonus: Must be able to work rotating shifts, which is fundamental to supporting the mill’s continuous 24-hour, 7-day-a-week operational schedule.
