Role Overview

This is a Fall 2025 Internship program (September – December) at Physik Instrumente for a student majoring in mechanical engineering or a related field. The intern will work with manufacturing engineers, gaining practical experience with innovative instruments and technology. The role focuses on supporting manufacturing processes and systems. Students who enjoy building mechanical things and are curious about a mechanical engineering career in a manufacturing environment are highly encouraged to apply.

What You Will Do

Design fixtures for assembly, metrology, and manufacturing using SolidWorks.
Model and create engineering drawings in SolidWorks.
Machine new fixtures and modify existing fixtures using manual equipment (milling machines, lathes, saws, 3-D printers).
Machine, modify, and 3-D print existing parts for use in production.
Troubleshoot and provide general support/analysis for assembly, metrology, R&D, and manufacturing issues, including ECR/ECO and Defects/Quality issues.
Optimize and improve processes for manufacturing/assembly.
Create documentation such as assembly build procedures and in-process inspection instructions.
Upload documents to the company Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
Order and organize tooling, material, and other supplies for shop use.
