The Tone:
This is an internship at Intech, located in Spring, TX. Intech is a custom manufacturing company that specializes in advanced radiation shielding materials and engineered products. The company innovates, develops, and manufactures traditional and cutting-edge (lead-free) shielding solutions for critical applications across the medical, industrial, and government sectors. This role provides a hands-on opportunity to directly support projects in polymer extrusion, materials development, and additive manufacturing within a real production environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Compounding: Work with various filled polymers, including PETG, HDPE, and elastomers, to incorporate metal powders and create advanced materials.
• System Operation: Operate both filament and pellet extrusion systems directly.
• Troubleshooting: Resolve practical manufacturing challenges such as clogging, poor dispersion of materials, and diameter inconsistency in extruded products.
• Process Improvement: Design and run experiments aimed at enhancing material performance and improving the stability of manufacturing processes.
• Additive Manufacturing: Contribute to projects involving 3D printing with advanced and specialized materials.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Strong academic foundation in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
• Experience: No specific years required; must be comfortable and enthusiastic about working in a hands-on shop environment.
• Skills: A genuine interest in polymers, plastics, or manufacturing processes; strong problem-solving skills with a curious and self-motivated mindset.
