Manager, Tax | Walmart
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Walmart, located in Bentonville, AR. As a Manager, Tax, you will be a key contributor to the Global Tax Team, playing a critical role in developing and executing strategic tax planning initiatives. This position is essential for ensuring robust compliance with complex international and domestic tax regulations, aligning tax strategies with the company’s overarching business objectives, and mitigating tax-related risks across the enterprise.

• Team: The Global Tax Team is responsible for managing the company’s tax strategy, compliance, and risk across all jurisdictions where Walmart operates.
• Mission: This person supports the development and execution of global tax planning strategies, ensuring compliance with international and domestic tax regulations, and documenting tax positions across the enterprise.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Tax Planning: Support global tax planning initiatives by analyzing complex tax concepts to optimize financial outcomes and align with the overarching business strategy, contributing to the company’s overall efficiency.
• Risk Mitigation: Conduct in-depth tax research and comprehensive analysis to address complex tax issues, identify potential exposures, and help mitigate associated risks for the company.
• Transaction Support: Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, finance, and various business teams to provide expert tax insights on internal restructurings and other significant corporate transactions.
• Documentation & Audits: Develop and maintain comprehensive tax documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness, to effectively support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews.
• Regulatory Monitoring: Proactively monitor changes in international and domestic tax laws and regulations, assessing their impact to ensure ongoing compliance and inform strategic decision-making within the tax team.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate effectively with external advisors and internal stakeholders across departments to support the development and successful implementation of tax planning strategies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Manager level. Candidates must possess an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance. Additionally, a Master’s in Accountancy or Tax, an MBA, or a JD with a Tax LLM is required, demonstrating specialized knowledge in income tax planning and compliance.
• Experience: A minimum of 4 years of dedicated experience in income tax planning is essential. This includes a proven ability to conduct thorough tax research, analyze complex situations, and prepare clear, well-supported technical documentation. The role also requires experience collaborating cross-functionally.
• Skills: Strong project management and communication skills are critical for effectively managing tax-related initiatives and presenting findings to diverse audiences. The ability to collaborate cross-functionally with legal, finance, and various business teams is paramount. A strong knowledge of international tax principles, coupled with tax planning and research capabilities, is also required to analyze and document tax positions.
• Bonus: Preferred qualifications include experience leading cross-functional projects, supervisory experience, holding a license to practice law in at least one state, or possessing a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate.
