Manager, Actuarial | TD Bank

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at TD Bank, located in Montréal, Quebec, Canada. As part of TD Insurance, a leading financial institution, the company is dedicated to providing advice, protection, and support to Canadian families. This role within the Corporate Actuarial department, specifically the Project Development & Optimization team, is crucial for investigating new actuarial techniques, developing innovative tools, and optimizing processes that support liability valuation, strategic planning, capital, and risk management for General Insurance. The Manager will lead efforts to enhance efficiency, drive strategic analyses, and foster team growth to ensure robust financial outcomes.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Enhancement: Enhance current actuarial processes to maximize efficiency, periodically reviewing and optimizing them for continuous improvement.
• Tool Development: Partake in the development and implementation of reusable actuarial tools, including testing new features and participating in their deployment while ensuring sufficient controls are in place.
• Research Application: Assimilate actuarial research papers and demonstrate their practical applicability to business use cases, investigating new techniques for reserves, capital, and financial projections.
• Strategic Analysis: Participate in various financial analyses, such as profitability assessments of TD Insurance’s portfolio segments or the impact of economic factors on future reserves.
• Team Leadership: Provide guidance, support, leadership, and appropriate coaching to the team, developing and inspiring colleagues toward reaching new goals and becoming future leaders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial science or another quantitative area of study, with a Manager career level.
• Experience: Minimum 8 years of diversified actuarial experience in a general insurance company, coupled with management experience and the ability to coach and inspire a team.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, business and financial acumen, advanced knowledge in programming languages (e.g., R, Python, SQL, VBA), and working knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation concepts.
• Bonus: Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society or actively pursuing the title with the Casualty Actuarial Society or Canadian Institute of Actuaries or equivalent; experience in Corporate Actuarial; strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; proven ability to manage productive relationships with business partners and stakeholders.
