Summer Intern – Machining | ITT Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time internship at ITT Inc., located in Westminster, South Carolina, United States. ITT Inc. is a diversified global manufacturer of highly engineered critical components and customized technology solutions, employing more than 15,000 people across various markets including flow, aerospace, defense, transportation, industrial, and energy. This role is vital for supporting the Compact Automation Products division, which designs and produces a wide range of custom cylinders and actuators with a focus on precision and rapid delivery. As a Summer Intern, you will gain hands-on machining experience and contribute to the production of essential components that underpin modern industrial systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Learn Machine Operation: Learn to safely assist with operating basic machine tools and shop equipment, such as lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, and CNC machines, under close supervision.
• Support Part Production: Support machine setup and operation to help produce parts made from metal and other materials, following instructions from experienced team members.
• Check Quality: Assist with checking finished parts using measuring tools to make sure they meet basic quality and drawing requirements.
• Maintain Workspace: Help ensure machines and work areas are clean, organized, and operating properly to support quality production.
• Track Activities: Accurately enter daily time or activity information into a tracking system, with guidance as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Student. Currently enrolled in a High School Machine Tool curriculum.
• Experience: No specific years required; interest in learning machining skills, including assisting with lathes (manual and CNC).
• Skills: Ability to work well as part of a team; willingness to learn how to read basic blueprints; basic computer skills; ability to use basic math skills.
• Bonus: Experience with mills is helpful but not required.
