Learning and Development Intern | PathWays of Southwestern Pennsylvania
The Tone:
This is an internship at PathWays of Southwestern Pennsylvania, located in Washington, PA. PathWays is a human services organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support across multiple programs, including child services, healthcare/IDD, behavioral health, and workforce development. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience by supporting critical training initiatives across these diverse and impactful programs. The intern will directly contribute to real projects that enhance the effectiveness and reach of essential human services, operating within a regulated environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Design and develop new training materials and update existing content, encompassing job aids, microlearning modules, and supporting eLearning storyboards and visual design elements. This also includes building portfolio-ready content based on project work.
• Support the delivery of adult learning experiences by assisting with onboarding and live training sessions, including co-facilitating activities and breakout groups, preparing facilitator materials, and supporting learner engagement and evaluation efforts.
• Manage and maintain the Learning Management System (LMS), which involves supporting system updates and generating various reports to track learning progress and outcomes.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements by assisting with compliance tracking and actively helping to coordinate training logistics and essential communications to learners and stakeholders.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of learning operations within the organization.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student currently pursuing studies in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Adult Education, HR, Business, Communications, Organizational Leadership, Human Services, or Data Analytics. This internship is open to a wide range of academic programs relevant to organizational learning and development.
• Experience: This role is specifically designed for students seeking to gain real-world, hands-on L&D experience in a regulated human services environment. No prior professional experience in an L&D role is required.
• Skills: Possess a foundational understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies. Demonstrate an aptitude for creating various training materials, including job aids, microlearning, and supporting eLearning components. Exhibit strong organizational and communication skills for coordinating training logistics and managing communications effectively. Show the ability to support data entry, reporting, and process improvement within a Learning Management System (LMS).
