Junior Staff Accountant – Global Freight Forwarder | Activ8 Recruitment & Solutions
The Tone:
This is a full-time role with Activ8 Recruitment & Solutions’ client, a global freight forwarder, located in Jericho, NY. The client is a company that facilitates the movement of goods internationally, and this position is critical for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting daily accounting functions. This role ensures smooth financial operations and effective communication across global teams, contributing to the overall financial health of the business.

• Team: Collaborates with an HQ accounting team of 5 staff members, local branch offices, operations teams, and branch managers; reports to the Accounting Manager.
• Mission: Owns supporting daily accounting operations, managing credit control, and ensuring accuracy of financial records within a freight forwarding environment.
• Tech Stack: CODA, Descartes (ONEVIEW), CargoWise, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook
What You’ll Actually Do
• Credit Management: Manage credit control functions and monitor customer accounts.
• Process Financial Transactions: Handle all Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) processes.
• Reconcile Records: Perform bank reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
• Global Coordination: Coordinate overseas settlements with international offices and agents.
• Reporting Support: Assist with financial reporting and provide support to the Accounting Manager.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent experience in an accounting domain.
• Experience: 1 to 2 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
• Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables), Word, and Outlook; strong attention to detail; excellent organizational skills; ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
• Bonus: Any Asian language skill (such as Japanese, Korean, Chinese, or Vietnamese); prior experience in the freight forwarding or logistics industry; familiarity with CargoWise, Descartes (ONEVIEW), or similar systems; experience with accounting systems (e.g., CODA).
