Junior Industrial Designer | VOLTAS

The Tone:
This is an internship role at Voltas, located on-site in the United States. Voltas is a medical device development and manufacturing company that provides end-to-end services, from early R&D and prototyping through regulatory support and commercialization. This role is crucial for supporting the design and development of medical devices within a regulated industry. You will gain hands-on exposure to the full product development lifecycle, contributing to the creation of market-ready medical products.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist with concept generation, sketching, and CAD modeling for medical devices and related products.
• Create physical prototypes for user testing and form-factor exploration, supporting iterative design processes.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and regulatory specialists to refine designs based on usability, manufacturing, and clinical requirements.
• Prepare design documentation and actively participate in design reviews to ensure compliance and quality.
• Contribute to presentations, animations, or visual materials to effectively communicate design intent and concepts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
• Experience: Hands-on experience or coursework in Prototyping and Product Development, including building and iterating physical or digital models.
• Skills:
• Strong foundation in Industrial and Product Design principles, including user-centered research, ideation, and iterative problem-solving from Design Thinking.
• Proficiency with common design and CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360), complemented by strong sketching and visual communication abilities.
• Demonstrated attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and an aptitude for documentation in a regulated medical device environment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary, on-site team and constructively incorporate feedback.
• Bonus: Interest in medical devices, healthcare technology, and learning about regulatory and manufacturing processes.
