Junior Accountant | Segal

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Segal, located in New York, NY. Segal is a privately owned, leading North American employee benefit, human resources and investment management consulting firm with over 85 years of history providing trusted advice that improves lives. As a Junior Accountant, you’ll support the day-to-day financial operations that keep our business moving, playing a crucial part in maintaining financial precision and supporting core finance processes.

• Mission: Support daily financial operations and ensure compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Close Support: Support monthly and quarterly close activities, including journal entries, daily cash sheet preparation, and bank and cashbook reconciliations.
• Account Reconciliation: Prepare and analyze balance sheet and expense account reconciliations, including general ledger, bank statement, and daily cash sheet activity.
• Financial Reporting: Create monthly internal Profit and Loss statements for distribution to reporting groups.
• Ad Hoc Analysis: Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting for leaders, including Directors and the CFO.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or other quantitative and analytical related academic discipline. Early-career accounting professional seeking hands-on experience and exposure to core finance processes.
• Experience: 1+ years of relevant accounting and/or financial administration experience, with familiarity with basic accounting principles and the ability to research, analyze, and summarize financial information.
• Skills: Demonstrated initiative, strong time management and organizational skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Strong interpersonal, client service, and verbal/written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively both independently and in teams, interact professionally with others, and communicate clearly by phone and in writing.
• Bonus: Experience and/or familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations and Power BI.
