IT Business Management Intern – MN, CO | Xcel Energy

• Team: This role supports the IT Business Operations team, which is responsible for critical back office functions including financial planning & analysis (capital and opex), procurement, and capital project in-take.
• Mission: This intern will provide essential support for financial planning, reporting, and procurement processes, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the IT Business Operations team.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Planning: Prepare comprehensive financial forecasts and budgets for IT operations, contributing to strategic financial oversight.
• Performance Reporting: Compile detailed month-end reports, including clear and concise explanations for any identified variances from budget.
• Procurement Support: Assist in the processing of various procurement requests, diligently tracking associated metrics to ensure efficient purchasing.
• Tool Utilization: Effectively utilize specialized forecasting tools, such as ServiceNow Project Portfolio Management, to support financial and project management activities.
• Capital Project Assistance: Provide critical support for the capital project in-take process, which is a key back-office function for IT initiatives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be a current student, at Junior level or higher, actively pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
• Experience: No specific prior work experience is required. Candidates must be able to commit to full-time work during the summer (up to 40 hours per week) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours per week), adhering to the hybrid work policy by commuting to designated locations in-person.
• Skills: Strong foundational understanding of financial concepts, ability to assist with budgeting and forecasting, proficiency in compiling and analyzing reports, and aptitude for supporting procurement processes.
• Bonus: A proactive willingness to learn new concepts, confidently ask questions, and actively engage with team members and company processes to drive personal and team success.
