Analyst or Associate, Investment Banking | National Bank of Canada

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at National Bank of Canada, located in New York, NY. National Bank Financial Inc. (NBF) is a full-service, fully integrated investment bank with a strong presence in the Power, Utilities & Infrastructure sector, committed to adding high calibre resources as an established player in the North American markets. This role is crucial for participating in a wide variety of transactions, gaining direct exposure to the firm’s business, and deepening industry knowledge, directly supporting clients’ capital decision-making and the expansion of the New York office.

• Team: Power, Utilities & Infrastructure Investment Banking team, approximately 15 people, expanding New York headcount.
• Mission: Support senior team members in deal execution and client coverage by participating in and executing advisory and financing mandates.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Client Support: Prepare presentation materials to support clients’ capital decision making.
• Transaction Execution: Provide support in the execution of M&A transactions.
• Financial Modeling: Evaluate corporate client financial needs, building complex financial models and performing valuation analysis.
• Market Research: Conduct a variety of industry and company research and analysis.
• Deal Structuring: Support deal teams with transaction structuring and execute advisory and financing mandates with increasing responsibility.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate or graduate degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, with knowledge of fundamental financial theory, accounting, and capital markets.
• Experience: At least 1 year of experience in investment banking, transactions advisory, equity research, or capital markets for an Associate level role. Prior investment banking, transaction advisory, or corporate finance experience is preferred.
• Skills: Exceptional proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; demonstrated problem-solving mindset and collaborative approach; strong interpersonal skills with excellent English communication (spoken and written).
• Bonus: Experience in, or knowledge of, the power, utilities, and infrastructure sectors.
