2027 Governmental Accounting Practice Summer Intern | Plante Moran
The Tone:
This is a non-exempt internship position with Plante Moran, located across their offices in CO, IL, OH, and MA, which may require local, national, and occasional international travel. Plante Moran is a large audit, tax, consulting, and wealth management firm. This role is crucial for providing essential financial and accounting support to public sector clients, helping them ensure financial health and stability. The intern will make a meaningful impact by contributing directly to the success of cities, schools, and various organizations.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Provide financial staffing and related consulting support to public sector clients, including cities, villages, and K-12 school districts.
• Assist public clients with core accounting and finance functions, such as bank reconciliations, budget development, and year-end close of financial records.
• Verify, allocate, and post details of client transactions to subsidiary accounts in journals or computer files from various financial documents.
• Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries for general ledger accounts, accurately documenting client transactions.
• Improve client accounting operations by working independently or in teams to draft and implement new policies and procedures.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting, or a Master’s degree in accounting or tax, with plans to return to school following the internship.
• Experience: Academic success demonstrated by a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Skills: Detail-oriented, problem-solving, strong communication, organizational, technical aptitude, and analytical skills.
• Bonus: On track to complete the necessary degree and credits to sit for and successfully obtain the CPA or CIA license.
