Job Description
Internship – Industry Process Expert (Material Testing) | Dassault Systèmes
The Tone:
This is an Internship at Dassault Systèmes, location not specified. Dassault Systèmes is a leading company specializing in virtual twin technologies, developing industry process digital solutions across various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, and materials like chemicals, specialty materials, and polymer manufacturing. This role is crucial for expanding the application of these virtual twin technologies, enabling new industrial use scenarios, and creating first-of-a-kind solutions that directly contribute to the company’s product offerings and market presence through presentations and demonstrations. The intern will focus specifically on polymer material characterization and virtual testing.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: Not specified
• Pay: $22–$40 hourly
• Team: SIMULIA IPS Infrastructure, Energy and Materials team
• Mission: To develop, implement, and demonstrate industry process digital solutions, with an emphasis on polymer material characterization and virtual testing workflows, contributing to new industrial applications and market materials.
• Tech Stack: SIMULIA Material Calibration App, Abaqus, 3DEXPERIENCE platform, BIOVIA, Python
What You’ll Actually Do
• Implementation: Implement end-to-end polymer material characterization workflows, translating physical test data into simulation-ready material models using the SIMULIA Material Calibration App and Abaqus.
• Support: Support geometry preparation workflows on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including importing CAD geometries typical for materials and chemistry customers, followed by cleanup, simplification, and meshing for simulation.
• Development: Participate in the creation of polymer material testing workflows on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, leveraging both SIMULIA and BIOVIA capabilities.
• Content Creation: Create go-to-market (GTM) material using representative polymer models to demonstrate solutions to industry problems, focusing on delivering business value for target customers.
• Customer Engagement: Support customer engagements related to newly enabled polymer simulation workflows, contributing to the adoption and understanding of these solutions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Engineering, possessing a strong academic background in materials engineering, polymer mechanics, and constitutive modeling, specifically covering hyper elasticity, viscoelasticity, and creep.
• Experience: Demonstrated familiarity with physical material testing methods such as tensile testing, Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), and rheometric techniques; practical laboratory experience is considered a plus. Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is required, ideally with Abaqus or comparable simulation tools.
• Skills: Proficiency with Python for data processing and workflow automation; strong English communication skills, both written and verbal; strong presentation and documentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical results to both engineering and business audiences. The ability to take direction and guidance positively, and to adapt and develop best practices while navigating obstacles creatively is also essential.
• Bonus: Familiarity with industry standards for polymer testing, including ISO 527, ASTM D638, and ISO 6721, is a plus; basic familiarity with CAD geometry handling and meshing concepts would also be beneficial for this role.
