Tax Intern, Partnerships – Summer 2027 (Boston) | BDO USA

The Tone:
This is a seasonal/temporary internship at BDO USA, located in Boston, MA. BDO USA is a global accounting and advisory firm providing assurance, tax, and advisory services to clients across the U.S. and around the world. This role is crucial for developing specialized knowledge in partnership taxation, enabling the intern to support BDO’s clients directly and through client service teams in navigating complex tax regulations and optimizing financial outcomes.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Partnership Tax Preparation: Assist in the preparation of various partnership-specific tax items, including 704(b) and Taxable income allocations, 704(b) and Tax Capital Account maintenance, and Tax Receivable Agreement calculations.
• Liability Management: Support in conducting detailed liability analysis and allocations for partnerships, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
• Tax Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure client adherence to all applicable tax authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and guarantee self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
• Tax Consulting & Optimization: Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, primarily by decreasing clients’ current and future taxes.
• Research and Development Monitoring: Operate online research tools to gather pertinent tax information and regularly monitor tax law and client factual developments, communicating potential impacts to the client service team.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Accounting or Finance.
• Experience: No specific years of experience required.
• Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, developing analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, developing decision-making skills, ability to work well in a team environment, positive attitude and willingness to learn, ability to follow instructions as directed, and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bonus: Leadership experience and actively pursuing school credits to be eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
