Intern, Mechatronics Engineer | ArcBest Technologies
The Tone:
This is a temporary onsite intern position at ArcBest Technologies, located in Fort Smith, Arkansas, for summer 2026. ArcBest Technologies is the company’s tech and innovation team, dedicated to providing custom-built solutions and leading-edge technologies. The team helps customers successfully navigate the complex supply chain landscape by creating smart solutions that keep the global supply chain moving. This Intern, Mechatronics Engineer role is a pioneer position focused on developing rapid and safe deployment of industrial vehicles from both a hardware and safety perspective.

• Mission: Develop rapid and safe deployment of industrial vehicles and research new technologies for robotics and autonomous systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Lead Research: Manage a dedicated research project throughout the internship, specifically focusing on key Research and Development problems within the scope of mechatronics and automation.
• Design Systems: Design, develop, and actively enhance a variety of electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices for industrial applications.
• Build Automation: Create and implement Automated Systems, working in close collaboration with the Software Team to ensure their effective control and integration.
• Improve Quality: Monitor and analyze failure modes observed from field deployments, subsequently working on crucial quality improvements across the product lifecycle.
• Model Hardware: Utilize CAD software, such as SolidWorks, to accurately model and simulate electro-mechanical hardware components and assemblies.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, or a related field.
• Experience: Required experience includes controller programming. Prior experience in mechanical and electrical engineering is preferred, as is experience in leading 3D modeling systems.
• Skills: Strong systems analysis and design skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bonus: Superior academic and leadership achievements; demonstrated competencies in active learning, flexibility and adaptability, initiative, interpersonal relationships, managing multiple priorities, and problem solving.
