Audit Accounting Intern | Mauldin & Jenkins

The Tone:
This is an Audit Accounting Internship at Mauldin & Jenkins, located in Covington, LA. Mauldin & Jenkins is an accounting firm that provides auditing, management, and tax services to clients. This role offers the opportunity to gain practical experience in the accounting profession, contributing directly to client engagements and supporting the firm’s commitment to accuracy and professional service. Interns are integral to the team, working to develop essential technical skills and professional qualifications.

• Mission: To support client engagements by applying accounting and auditing principles, preparing financial information, and assisting with tax services.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist with the study and evaluation of internal accounting controls to ensure compliance and reliability.
• Prepare financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Examine client reconciliations of bank accounts and investigate any discrepancies found.
• Review data input, identify and resolve technical tax issues, and assist in the review of tax preparations.
• Schedule computations of accruals and document the underlying support for those accruals.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level position for candidates currently pursuing a college degree with a major or concentration in accounting.
• Experience: Currently pursuing a college degree with a major or concentration in accounting. All students must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship.
• Skills: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS); working knowledge of federal and state income tax laws; strong verbal and written communication skills; practice of accuracy in dealing with information.
• Bonus: Knowledge of Mauldin & Jenkins Firm; willingness to undertake overnight travel if necessary.
