Target Degree Interests & Departments

We are looking for candidates with a keen interest and academic focus in the following areas:

  • Geological Engineering: Contribute to understanding geological formations, rock mechanics, and resource evaluation.
  • Lab: Support critical laboratory operations, including sample analysis, quality control, and data interpretation.
  • Mine Engineering: Assist with mine planning, design, operational efficiency, and safety initiatives.

Qualifications

Academic Enrollment:

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a secondary education program and planning to be enrolled for the Fall 2026 school year to be eligible.

General Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive pre-employment background check, drug screening, and physical examination.
  • Demonstrated willingness to work diligently and responsibly in a safety-sensitive industrial environment.
  • Strong ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

As an intern, you will play a supportive role across various departments, contributing to daily operations and projects. Your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Operational Support: Assist crews with a variety of general labor tasks around the mine site, which may involve material handling, site maintenance, equipment assistance, and general operational support.
  • Safety Compliance: Diligently follow all established safety procedures, company policies, and MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) regulations to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Departmental Assistance: Perform diverse duties as assigned to provide crucial support to the Lab and Engineering departments. This could encompass:
    • For Lab Interns: Assisting with sample preparation, data entry, equipment calibration, and various analytical testing procedures.
    • For Engineering Interns (Geological/Mine): Supporting data collection, field observations, drafting, report preparation, and other project-related tasks.
  • Team Collaboration: Work cooperatively with experienced personnel, learning from their expertise, and actively participating in team-based initiatives.

Work Environment

Interns will experience a dynamic and challenging work setting:

  • Primarily an outdoor industrial mining environment.
  • Regular exposure to typical mining conditions, including dust, noise, and vibration.
  • Work will be performed in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry), requiring adaptability and appropriate attire.
  • Close proximity to heavy equipment and moving machinery, necessitating constant vigilance and strict adherence to safety protocols.
  • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times to ensure safety.

Physical Demands

This role requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and stamina:

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly throughout the workday.
  • Frequent engagement in physically active tasks such as walking, standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Comfort and capability to work effectively on uneven ground and in elevated areas.
  • Capacity for performing physically demanding labor for extended periods during shifts.
